Anna Durward’s creative practices explores all the facets of what she explores in her life; public health, place, culture, climate, Indigenous Knowledge and health, traditional healing modalities and the modern systems of capitalism and colonialism.
Using raw and natural earth pigments and natural binders that have been respectful and ethically sourced, Anna’s painted works explore the emotions behind the existential crisis facing us all today. These feelings and the path forward are hard to conceptualise in words, but can be felt through the heart – Anna hopes that her art can help people feel their emotions and find in their hearts their own solutions. Anna’s practice also extends into photography, pottery, sculpture, weaving and poetry, using all natural mediums guided by nature to bring complex ideas and emotions to the forefront.
Informed by careers in architecture and design, systems change, strategy, leadership, operations, community guiding, mental health and herbalism, Anna’s dream is to bring these concepts and artworks out of the studio and gallery and into public spaces where they can engage people of all walks of life.
Please note Anna endeavours to use non-toxic products where possible for her creations, but sometimes she will use standard products. She is constantly in a learning journey about how her creation can have as little impact on the environment as possible.
